Astonishing Things I've Learned About Health Intuition
Let’s talk about something I never expected to become central to both my personal healing and the way I help others recover from chronic illness: health intuition. If you'd asked me years ago what I thought about intuition and healing, I probably would’ve said something like, "I mean, yeah, it sounds nice—but what does it actually mean?"
Now I know better.
When I look back, it’s painfully clear that I spent most of my life pushing through. Pushing through fatigue, pain, brain fog, anxiety. Performing while feeling emotionally raw. Telling my body to stay quiet while I did what I “had” to do. I thought that was strength. I thought discipline meant disconnecting from discomfort. But what I’ve come to learn—and what changed everything for me—is that healing starts when we stop ignoring and start listening to our bodies.
And listening in this deep, embodied way? That’s what I now call health intuition.
Ignoring My Body Nearly Broke Me
Like so many high-functioning women I work with, I was the kind of person who could ignore hunger, pain, or exhaustion to hit a deadline. I’d sit for hours studying, convinced that mind over matter made me resilient. But I wasn't strong—I was slowly burning out.
I used to think I got sick the moment my body broke down. That the collapse—when I couldn’t push anymore—was the beginning of illness. But no. It started long before that. The real root? Years of overriding my body’s whispers. Pushing through anxiety instead of acknowledging it. Skipping rest and nourishment for the sake of achievement. Pretending I was fine when my cells were screaming otherwise.
Realizing I’d Lost Connection With My Inner Wisdom
The true turning point came when I stopped asking, “What’s wrong with me?” and started asking, “What has my body been trying to tell me all along?”
That’s when I discovered the science behind what I was experiencing. I started learning about psycho-neuro-endocrine-immunology (PNEI)—a mouthful, I know—but it's basically the science of how your thoughts, nervous system, hormones, and immune function are all interconnected. And it's fascinating.
Your body is made of 37 trillion cells, constantly sending light, chemical, and electrical signals. These signals shut down when you're in chronic survival mode. That was me. My body had been trying to protect me—sounding alarms I didn’t hear until I crashed. I wasn’t healing because I wasn’t actually listening.
Even when I thought I was doing all the right things—eating well, getting more sleep, taking supplements—I was still thinking my way through healing. But true intuitive health and wellness doesn’t come from just doing the right things. It comes from embodying them. From feeling into your body, asking it what it needs, and actually listening.
What Health Intuition Actually Feels Like
Let me be clear—this isn’t about guessing what’s healthy based on what you've read online or heard in a podcast. (Even mine!) This is about coming back to a deeply embodied knowing. It’s soft. It’s subtle. And it’s wise. Your body always knows what’s up—it just needs to know you’re listening.
Learning to tap into that knowing is one of the most powerful things I’ve ever done. It’s also what helped me finally break the cycle of chronic burnout and dysregulation. I stopped treating symptoms and started rebuilding safety in my system by listening, responding, and trusting.
That’s why I always say: your symptoms are not failures—they’re messages.
Rewiring the Healing Process
Here’s something wild: even once I started tuning in, my body didn’t immediately bounce back. Why? Because dysregulation leaves patterns in the body. Adrenaline dominance, cortisol spikes, neurotransmitter imbalances—they don’t vanish overnight.
So part of the work was also gently retraining my body to believe that it’s safe again. That took supporting my mitochondria, rebalancing hormones, and mapping new signaling pathways in my brain and nervous system. That’s where the medical intuition piece really came in. It’s not just about sensing into what’s off—it’s about understanding how to guide the body through repair.
This is the sweet spot where physical healing meets intuitive medicine. It’s where root cause medicine and somatic awareness come together. It’s where transformation happens.
Treating My Body Like a Beloved Companion
One analogy I love to use is imagining your body as a beloved pet. If your dog came home panting and thirsty, would you tell it to push through? Of course not. You’d give it water. You’d meet its needs with love.
But we don’t do that for ourselves, do we?
Health anxiety, chronic symptoms, and burnout often stem from years of not treating our bodies with that kind of tender care. Reconnecting with health intuition means reversing that. It means slowing down enough to ask, “What would I do if I loved this body unconditionally?”
Final Thoughts—and an Invitation
So yes, I now deeply believe in the power of healing intuition. I believe in the body’s wisdom. And I believe that burnout, fatigue, and illness are never random. They’re calls to deepen our awareness and remember who we really are—beyond the hustle, beyond the symptoms, beyond the noise.
If you’ve been living in your head, trying to think your way to health, I invite you to try something different. Something quieter. Something deeper.
Let your body lead.
